                        Commentary on the Ten Commandments

 

(Exodus 20:1-17 and Deuteronomy 5:6-21; Masoretic Text)

 

 

“I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

 

“Thou shalt have no other gods before Me”.

 

    Comment: 1st Kings 11:3-4 “And he (Solomon) had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines; and his wives turned away his heart.

 

                           “for it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned away his heart after other gods, and his heart was not whole with the Lord his God”.

 

        (see 1st Kings 11:5-13)                  

 

             1st Kings 16:29 “Ahab the son of Omri reigned over Israel in Samaria twenty and two years. And Ahab the son of Omri did that which was evil in the sight of the Lord above all that were before him. 

                            “And it came to pass…that he took to wife Jezebel the daughter of Ethbaal king of the Zidonians, and went and served Baal, and worshipped him. And he reared up an altar for Baal in the house of Baal, which he had built in Samaria”.

 

             Isaiah 9:5 “And his name is called Pele-joez-el-gibbor-Abi-ad-sar-shalom”.

 

             Isaiah 9:6 “and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace”.
